Competitions, Events, and Youth Showcase…

Competitions
The PFLI was started in the early 1970’s by a Newsday photographer, Leonard Victor, who realized there was a demand for dedicated photographers across Long Island to share techniques, compete in friendly competitions, and make friends along the way. The PFLI is also a member of the Photographic Society of America, a nationally recognized organization. Since its inception, the PFLI has had over 4,000 members.

Special Events
The Federation also holds a number of special events including instructional seminars by leading experts in the fields of photography, digital photography and Photoshop as well as live photographic shoots.

Youth Showcase
The PFLI holds an annual competition for students in many Long Island schools, and the five boroughs of New York City. In addition to the awards from the PFLI, winning students can gain national recognition. The PFLI submits student images to the Photographic Society of America Youth Showcase, where our students are often big winners nationally.
